Kid Confidence: Help Your Child Develop Real Self-Esteem
On-demand workshop – watch at your convenience
This month’s FEATURED WORKSHOP
Pretty much every parent in my practice says at some point, “My kid has low self-esteem!” My take on how to address this is different than the usual “give ‘em a pep talk!” approach. (If only it were that easy!) Check out this month’s featured workshop for practical, research-based strategies to help self-doubting kids develop real self-esteem.
Kid Confidence: Help Your Child Develop Real Self-Esteem
On-demand workshop: Watch at your convenience!
Directly trying to improve children’s self-esteem tends to backfire. The more we tell self-doubting kids, “You’re wonderful!”, the harder they argue, “I’m terrible!”
In this recorded workshop, I’ll address three common self-esteem challenges:
feeling friendless,
giving up easily, and
struggling with feeling different.
Real self-esteem isn’t about loving ourselves; it’s about being able to let go of the question “Am I good enough?” by connecting with something bigger than ourselves.
Think of the way you are with a close friend. You’re not sitting there thinking, “Does she like me?” or “Is he impressed by me?” You’re not even thinking about yourself because you’re immersed in the conversation or activity. That’s what we’re aiming for: that beautiful forgetting of the self, which is called a “quiet ego.”
In this hour-long workshop, you’ll discover practical ways to help your child turn down the volume on self-doubt and self-criticism and develop genuine confidence by connecting with something bigger than themselves.
You’ll learn:
The three key ingredients for real self-esteem (that have nothing to do with thinking you're great!)
Useful phrases to acknowledge your child’s feelings when they’re feeling down about themselves
How to correct a sensitive child and get your message across without making the child feel hurt or defensive
The mistaken belief that gets in the way of kids making friends and what to do instead
Specific ways to help unmotivated kids find the courage to try
Questions to help your child understand the difference between fitting in and belonging
A simple but deeply meaningful way to offer hope, rather than hollow reassurance, to self-doubting kids
And so much more!
